Facebook have re-branded and re-launched their Events app under the new name of Facebook Local, which allows you to see the events happening near you and the best-rated places to eat and drink in your area.
Events
The app, which automatically syncs with your Facebook account, shows you a list of ‘Trending Events’ that are the most popular events happening local to you. It will also show you ‘Suggested Events’ which are events your Facebook friends are interested in – this is aimed at allowing the user to select the best events for them, and see which are going to be the most popular.
The app will default to showing you the events in the area you originally chose, however you can change that location at any time to see what is happening elsewhere – which is great if you are planning a trip and you want to make the most of your time!
The events can also be searched for based on the following categories:

- Drinks
- Film
- Fitness
- Food
- Gardening
- Health
- Kid-friendly
- Literature
- Music
- Networking
- Parties
- Religion
- Shopping
- Theatre
- Wellness
Local Businesses
The search function on Facebook Local not only allows you to search for events, it also allows you to view various local businesses under the categories previously mentioned. Clicking on one of the business listings will allow you to see all of the available information about the business including:
- Contact information – Business name, phone number, address
- Opening hours
- Facebook recommendations
- Which of your Facebook friends have checked-in there before
Whilst the main focus of the app is still events, Facebook Local can be a great way to work out the best bars, restaurants and attractions based on the reviews they have collected from their customers.
How to get the app
The Facebook Local app can be found easily by searching for it within the store used to download apps for your device.
If you already have the Facebook app downloaded and logged in on your device, Facebook Local will automatically sync up with your profile in order to show you the events and businesses your friends have interacted with.
